Four months ago, after a long period of struggling with strong uncertainty about what to do after earning my degree in International Relations, I decided to embark on a new experience. Today, four months after starting the European Solidarity Corps, I am happy with the choice I made that day.
I have decided to dedicate this year here in Narva. In a few months, many things have changed, and many more will. Adapting to a new culture, a new community, and a new environment—not to mention the harsh climate that makes the days short and dark—is all part of this journey. Everything I have experienced so far, and everything still to come, will enrich my cultural knowledge, giving me more perspectives to perceive the world.
For this, I must thank VitaTiim, an inspiring center that focuses on developing the skills of everyone involved in the most diverse ways possible. In such a short time, we have carried out a variety of activities and events, thanks also to the dynamic energy that pervades this place. English conversation clubs, Hackathons, Sustainability workshops, and Gender Equality projects are just a few of the activities we have completed so far.
What matters most to me is the opportunity to assist in the project management phase of new international projects led by the organization, confident that this experience will significantly enrich my professional journey. This is proof that everyone can shape their volunteering experiences as they want, whether you are looking for a ‘gap year’ from your studies or want to improve your professional skills, as it was for my case.
However, the “work” aspect is not the only focus. Volunteering also involves connecting with new people, building networks, and supporting one another. The special bond that develops among volunteers is wonderful. Every day I spend with my fellow volunteers makes me increasingly aware that I can rely on them for the duration of my time here and even beyond.
This is precisely why this experience is so important. It is enriching from every perspective.
