As a result of a youth exchange project called A Truth Bridge, which I attended in Antalya last summer, I am now in the third month of this project. The main reason I wanted to volunteer was that I had just graduated and hadn’t yet decided exactly what I wanted to do. Throughout this process, I knew I would gain different experiences and be able to shape my own path more clearly. At the same time, I wanted to do something beneficial for students.
First of all, I am doing my volunteer work at Narva Kesklinna School as part of the Connect with Community project. My role here is to work alongside English teachers to help children enjoy learning English, practice with them, and support their development. To achieve this, I engage in one-on-one conversations with students during lessons and prepare presentations on various topics.
Additionally, my volunteer experience is connected to Vitatiim, an NGO that organizes various workshops and creates a space where young people can develop themselves and socialize. Through Vitatiim, I have had the opportunity to participate in different activities that support both personal and professional growth.
From my experience so far, I have learned many things, but the most important one for me is realizing how enjoyable it can be to work with children. I have started to consider working with children in my own field in the future as well.
Throughout this process, I have created wonderful memories with teachers, students, and my fellow volunteers, and I will continue to do so. Among these memories, the funniest and most unforgettable one for me was a TikTok video made by the Narva Gazette's TikTok account, which went viral at school, I don't think I'll ever forget that!
So far, my volunteering experience has been very enjoyable. I would highly recommend ESC projects like this to anyone who is still figuring out what they want to do, wants to contribute to society (and themselves), and enjoys meeting new people while having fun. I would like to sincerely thank the Vitatiim family for organizing this project and my dear friend Karin for recommending it to me.
